Virginia Voices
Award-Winning Museum and TV Broadcasted Film
Virginia Voices is an award-winning documentary film produced for the Virginia Museum of History & Culture. The film combines powerful cinematic images with crowd-sourced stories, from hundreds of Virginians, to create the first state history of its kind. Revealing the history of Virginia, through the eyes of the people that live and work in the state.
Orange Frame reached out to Virginians through morning talk shows, town hall meetings across the state, as well as festivals and conventions, looking for people who were willing to reveal their personal histories. We mailed participants a digital video camera and asked them to document their lives. The team also created a website for people to upload their own self-shot footage.
When the cameras came back, each contained an intimate, diverse, and deeply personal story. Based on the premise today is tomorrow's history, the resulting content told the living history of Virginia.
The film plays in a 500 seat theater at the Virginia Museum of History and Culture and aired on Virginia affiliate PBS stations.
Virginia Voices won a gold medal CINDY award in the short film category (the most competitive). The Cinema in Industry (CINDY) Awards recognize professionals who create exceptional media content.
