Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument

Award-Winning Interpretive Film, Multi-Seasonal Field Production

A Window Into the Past explores the rich fossil record found at Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument and shows how ongoing scientific research helps reconstruct and protect Idaho’s paleontological history.

Hagerman Fossil Beds is one of the few federally managed fossil sites specifically set aside for scientific research. Public access to the monument is limited, so this film provides rarely seen views of restricted areas and highlights the ongoing work of scientists to unravel the clues buried in Idaho's ancient past.

A Window Into the Past makes Hagerman Fossil Beds more accessible than ever before with 4K cinematography, 5.1 surround sound, 3D animation, and rarely seen historic footage. The film brings the sights, sounds, and stories of the monument vividly to life, and takes viewers out in the field with scientists who are methodically reconstructing pieces of the Pliocene puzzle.
